Well, if you haven't heard yet, PSN is suppose to be back up and running, or even just "Some services up and running" By May 3rd. That is this coming Tuesday. It's great news! And it finally sets up a time table about when the network is going to be back up and running. I'm guessing that everything won't be working right off the bat. Hopefully the features I was are working
On Tuesday, the network will be "Up". And that could mean a few things...
1.) You can see your friends, access the store, but can't play multiplayer yet.
2.) You can see your friends, have no access to the store, and can play multiplayer.
And there are more possibilities as well.... but...
I'm hoping for scenario #2. Cross your fingers on that one.
Although which services will be coming back online is unclear, Sony has stated they are working on new security measures for the future, as well as seeking out those who are responsible for the security breach. Which is a great thing to know. I want to know who made us gamers go cold turkey!
Now about all of our questions about whats going on with our personal info and such, some of them did get answered. Lets take a look, shall we?
We asked: How safe our personal info?
Sony: "All of the data was protected and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate date set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack"
We asked: Did they get our credit card?
Sony: "While all credit card information stored in our systems is encrypted and there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PSN or Qriocity, our of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained. Keep in mind, however, that your credit card security code has not been obtained because we never requested it from anyone who has joined the PSN or Qriocity, and is therefore not stored anywhere in our system."
We asked : Changing our passwords?
Sony: "We are working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PSN is restored. We will provide more details about the new update shortly."
We asked: The future??
Sony: "Moving forward, we are initiating several measures that will significantly enhance all aspects of PSN's security and your personal data, including moving our network infrastructure and data center to a new, more secure location, which is already underway. We will provide additional information on these measures shortly."
And with everything going on, and Sony trying to things fixed for all of us... People are now going to sue Sony for the PSN security breach. Class action lawsuit.
I mean, really guys, come on. Sony is doing what it can to get the PSN back up and running, and to add to the stress of all this, you guys are going to sue? Can I ask.. Wtf? All you want is some easy money. It alleges Sony "Failed to take reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure the private sensitive data."
The lawsuit seeks monetary compensation for the data loss and "loss of use of the PSN, credit monitoring, and other relief according to proof.".
I think I'll pass. Honestly, Sony, just keep on working on getting the PSN up. That's all I care about.
Well kids, i'm outta time for today. Til next time.
